LAGOON Turquoise Blue Porcelain - We're In The Works

Turquoise Blue Porcelain Lagoon is a porcelain clay body manufactured by Sio-2 Clays, that's ALREADY stained for us - the potter's.
I purchased 3 bags of this porcelain. These bags are not the usual 25 pound bags.
Each bag weighs 11 pounds or 5kg. So we have 33 pounds of turquoise blue porcelain to utilize in our functional pottery before we return to coloring our own porcelain.
This is a great opportunity for me to make some pieces that go along together, such as a matching plate with bowl, cup with saucer, etc.
In the main photo you can see, Dennis and I have already dug into the bag of turquoise blue.
These pieces are not fired yet. Will re-post pieces when complete.
I'm carving it up, and Dennis is just beginning to "scratch" the surface (Sgraffito).
Attempting a couple mugs, one handle did not make it, and one handle appears to be adhered. Handles are the reason mugs and I don't really get along well, but I shall persevere.
The Lagoon is very plastic, almost rubbery - my opinion.
It took a few pieces to adjust from the shift of our Standard 365 Porcelain to Sio-2 Lagoon - for me, that is. Dennis seems to have adjusted faster than I have.
That sounds about right!
It carves nicely, as long as it's misted regularly.
Lagoon wheel throws beautifully, once the potter has adjusted. She clears her throat a little.
I have to remember that this clay is porcelain; a bit finicky and DO NOT wheel-throw too wet. If possible wheel-throw utilizing as little water as possible. It is beneficial to keep some of the wet slip (acquired from wheel-throwing) on your hands while throwing, instead of too much plain water.
And as a last note - to be honest with those wanting to try this porcelain - in order to counteract the possibility of the wheel-thrown vessel collapsing from being thrown too thin (and too wet) - I wheel-thrown this porcelain thicker than normal, and trim, trim and trim it down when the piece is leather hard, to a more desirable thickness (thinner).

I also like the UPSALA darker Blue porcelain clay, manufactured by Sio-2, and have produced some successful carved pieces from that porcelain. They are similar in feel to Lagoon when wheel-throwing and carving.

Lagoon is a most beautiful turquoise porcelain.
The color intensifies, the hotter the Cone.
According to the Sio-2 website, Lagoon can be fired to Cone 8.
We will not fire that high, in our kiln, to see the darker turquoise color.

So, Dennis and I are just beginning our Lagoon Turquoise Blue Porcelain Pottery, and will probably take a while to finish 33 pounds of it.
We have the beautiful color to inspire us, and keep us motivated.
