Mosaic Banded Piece Completed

She clocked in at about 24 hours of nipping and clipping tiny tiles.
Mosaics are the reason I wanted to learn how to make pots!
YES! I needed something functional to stick my tiles on.
My very first project incorporating a vessel instead of a flat surface, was a makeshift bucket. That's right, I needed something to enter a juried show in Connecticut, and used some concrete adhesive and a bucket. I used newspaper, so I'd be able to remove my mold easily, however, I TAPED THE NEWSPAPER TO THE BUCKET!
Sure did!
It finally came off, with some crying and choice words.
I then began glueing glass tiles, along with smalti to this homemade mosaic base.
Smalti - opaque mosaic glass made by mixing molten glass with metal oxides, poured into slabs, and cut into small pieces called tesserae.
It took a LONG TIME to finish.
It was several years after that (January 2017), my son, Dennis, and I took our very first wheel-throwing class.
I had mosaics on my mind, and in my heart, but also to give Dennis an artistic way to express himself.
NEVER in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine LOVING pottery for the sake of pottery.
The medium is so versatile; experimentation is almost required, whether construction techniques or glazing techniques.
Next, I'm going to carve "tiles" into leather hard clay, and hand glaze each little tile.
That way, there is no limitation of color, and tile shapes don't need to be clipped with a nipper.
