That is everything from the rim down to just above the glazed tulips.\u003cbr\u003eThe vase was wheel-thrown with pure white porcelain clay; no color added to the clay body.\u003cbr\u003eA band of flowers was carved into the leather hard clay \u003cem\u003e(not too wet, and not too dry), \u003c\/em\u003ethen filled in with chartreuse color porcelain slip \u003cem\u003e(wet clay)\u003c\/em\u003e. The surface was sanded smooth. The flowers are very subtle and blend in to the background. They are about 1\/2\" above the glazed tulips.\u003cem\u003e \u003cbr\u003e(Please scroll down to \"\u003cstrong\u003eHow It's Made\u003c\/strong\u003e\" for techniques - \u003cstrong\u003emishima\u003c\/strong\u003e)\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003cbr\u003eTwo nerikomi flowers were constructed using color porcelain stripes, checks and square dots, and inlaid into the letter hard clay-\u003cbr\u003eAfter forming the nerikomi flower, I carved out a section of the vase, in the same shape as the flower, removing excess clay so the flower would sit flush to the vase. Each bead is an individual bead.\u003cbr\u003eThis is WHY my son and I take SO LONG TO LOAD THE KILN!\u003cbr\u003eVarious agate techniques were used to assemble the remaining necklaces.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e(Please scroll down to \"\u003cstrong\u003eHow It's Made\u003c\/strong\u003e\" for techniques - \u003cstrong\u003eagateware\u003c\/strong\u003e)\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBOTTOM PORTION of the VASE:\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eThe tulips and tiny checks were created using very narrow detailing tape, and glazed with underglazes of various bright colors to coordinate with the necklaces.\u003cbr\u003eThe very bottom band, right above the footring was taped and glazed with a dark brown, satin glaze - Black Walnut.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe entire vase was bisque fired to Cone 04 \u003cem\u003e(1945 degrees Fahrenheit)\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003cbr\u003ethen covered with three thin coats of food safe, lead-free clear glaze, and fired to Cone 6 \u003cem\u003e(2232 degrees Fahrenheit)\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eVASE INSIDE:\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eThe inside of this Bohemian Vase is a very fluid, glossy honey white glaze.\u003cbr\u003eThe swirl at the bottom inside is clearly visible through the white glaze.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRIM:\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003eGlossy white.\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWheel-thrown Standard 365 Porcelain Clay.\u003cbr\u003eGlazed with lead-free, dinnerware safe glazes.\u003cbr\u003eFired to Cone 6 \u003cem\u003e(2232º Fahrenheit)\u003c\/em\u003e.\u003cbr\u003eI recommend washing these hand crafted pieces by hand.\u003cbr\u003eMy signature is engraved on the bottom of the bowl.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHow It's Made\u003cbr\u003eSome Colored Porcelain Clay Techniques used on this flower vase:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMishima \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ebegins as a design etched into leather hard clay.\u003cem\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/em\u003eColored slip is placed into the groove created by the etching.\u003cbr\u003eWhen the surface has dried sufficiently, the excess clay is scraped off, leaving the surface smooth. It is important to use a porcelain slip that is a different color than the surface of the pottery, so the etched design will stand out.\u003cbr\u003eMishima is level to the surface of the pottery. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNerikomi\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e - In Japanese, \u003cstrong\u003eneri\u003c\/strong\u003e is a root word meaning \u003cem\u003e\"to mix\"\u003c\/em\u003e. \u003cstrong\u003eKomi\u003c\/strong\u003e means \u003cem\u003e\"to press into,\"\u003c\/em\u003e as in pressing clay slabs into a mold. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNerikomi is a hand building technique piecing together various colored porcelain clays that have been stacked, sliced and pressed into a mold to create patterns that run through the entire vessel.
