Dennis's Wheel-thrown Turquoise Blue Colored Porcelain Bud Vase
Measures:
2" wide x 3-3/8“ high.
The hole for the flowers is 1-1/2" wide
Holds approximately 3-1/2 ounces of liquid, or 1/3 cup.
Dennis's favorite glazing technique is to layer glazes.
This effect of layering one or more glazes over a base glaze, creates a drippy effect, in most cases, especially when the top layered glaze is a flux.
Fluxes lower the glaze melt temperature, enabling it to move and flow at a lower temperature.
OUTSIDE:
Sio-2 Lagoon Turquoise Blue Porcelain Clay.
We did not color this porcelain; it is pre-colored by the manufacturer.
Glossy Smokey Merlot purple at the top, dripping down to a glossy, light lavender and finally a semi transparent blue.
This semi-transparent blue flows over carved rings Dennis created using his fingernail technique for texture.
The very bottom of the bud vase is the turquoise blue porcelain.
INSIDE:
Glossy beige and Smokey Merlot melt down to the inside center bottom.
Swirl on bottom inside is completely covered with glaze, and is not visible.
RIM:
Glossy Smokey Merlot.
Sio-2 Lagoon Turquoise Porcelain
Food Safe glazes.
Clean by hand or dishwasher.
Fired to cone 6 (2232 degrees Fahrenheit).
Dennis's initials and happy face engraved on bottom.
How it’s Made
Dennis's handmade bud vase was wheel-thrown on the potter's wheel, and layered with two turquoise blue glazes to create a very drippy effect.
The white drips are the light flux glaze that was layered over the light blue celadon glaze.
All of our handmade pottery is either wheel-thrown or hand-built in our North Carolina home studio.
