Dennis's Handmade Tourmaline Green and Cherry Blossom Pink Chatter Bowl
Measures:
4-1/8" wide x 1-1/2" high
Holds approximately 1/3 cup of liquid (2.66 ounces)

Condiment bowl, prep bowl, spice or herb holder, appetizer or sauce bowl.

This bowl was created on the potter's wheel, utilizing a pale yellow colored porcelain we color ourselves.
A very subtle chatter effect was created just under the outside rim.
Please see "How It's Made" section for chatter technique.

OUTSIDE:
Three individual sections on the outside of this bowl.
Starting from the top:
Tourmaline green glaze wraps around the exterior to the interior.
A clean defined line separates the green from the pink.
The light cherry blossom pink celadon glaze accentuates the VERY subtle chattering just below the rim.
The band below the chattering is left naked clay to the footring.
A slight indent on the section connected to the footring is becoming a distinctive feature on our pottery bowls, giving them some character.

INSIDE:
The inside of this bowl is glossy with tiny flecks and speckles.
Just below the rim is a band of very pale pink and tourmaline green speckles, descending into an ivory white with tiny pink speckles.
The bottom swirl is clearly visible, consisting of pale pink and light amber tiny flecks.

RIM:
Slightly flared rim.
Glossy, smooth Tourmaline green, wrapping around the inside and outside.

Wheel thrown and hand glazed by Dennis.
Colored Standard 365 Porcelain Clay.
Glazed with dinnerware safe, lead free glazes.
Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
Kiln fired to cone 6 (2232 degrees Fahrenheit)

Dennis's initials with happy face carved on the bottom.

How it’s Made

This bowl incorporates a pottery technique called chattering.
Chattering is a technique created on leather hard clay (not wet and not bone dry).
A sharpened metal tool is held loosely near the end of the handle.
The tool is allowed to vibrate and bounce on the surface of the clay, while the potter's wheel spins at high speed.
Usually found on the outside of the pottery.

All of our pottery is wheel-thrown and/or handbuilt in our North Carolina home studio.
