Small Wheel-thrown Ceramic Porcelain Condiment Bowl with Peony and Striped Design Measures:
4" wide x 1-7/8" high.
Holds approximately 3/4 cup of liquid. (6 ounces)
Condiment bowl, dipping bowl, prep bowl, small fruit bowl.
Wheel-thrown orange/coral colored porcelain.
OUTSIDE:
For the most part his bowl is a soft, satin matte - only the peony background is glossy.
Six peony flowers were drawn onto the bisqueware (the first kiln firing is called the bisque firing), then outlined with rubber latex.
This gave me the ability to "stay in the lines" - so to speak when glazing the petals, pollen and background.
After glaze colors were applied, the rubber latex was peeled off, as if pulling off a rubber band.
The bottom of this bowl, directly above the footring, small striped and triangular design created using very narrow tape, and glazed with a satin Black Walnut glaze.
The tape was removed before glaze firing. (Cone 6 - 2232 degrees Fahrenheit).
Foot ring formed on the potter's wheel and
sanded smooth with a diamond sanding disk.
INSIDE:
The inside is glossy, and soft - as opposed to the slightly textured peony design on the outside.
Where the white gloss glaze overlaps the dark brown rim, creates a dripping effect of soft umber and dark orangey beige.
Below this effect - tiny flecks of pink and cream melting towards the bottom.
Inside swirl on the very bottom is barely visible as the white glaze has covered the swirl.
RIM:
A very dark, satin, matte brown.
Rim wraps around the inside to the outside, approximately 1/4" on both sides, but the dark brown glaze inside fades as it melts toward the inside bottom..
Standard 365 Porcelain Clay, we color ourselves.
Glazed with lead-free, dinnerware safe glazes.
Fired to Cone 6 (2232 degrees Fahrenheit).
Dishwasher, microwave safe
Because of the design, it is best to hand wash this bowl.
