This Black, Grey and Red Bowl with Plaid, Checkered and Flower Design Measures:
6-3/4" wide x 3-5/8" high.
Holds approximately 4-1/2 cups of liquid (approximately 36 ounces).
This bowl consists of a few different textures and application techniques.
OUTSIDE:
Black, grey and red plaid encompasses three quarters of the outside top.
Pale pink and a cool grey checkered design on the bottom quarter of the outside.
These design treatments were created utilizing a very narrow (1/32") tape.
The tape lines produced negative space.
This negative space was glazed with high fire glazes on the plaid, and underglazes for the checks. The bottom portion, where the checks are has been left without a clear glaze over them, so the texture is slightly rough in comparison to the top, glazed portion, which is smooth.
There are four coats of glaze on the plaid - 2 coats of two colors.
Where the colors overlap, creates a third color, sometimes resulting in speckles.
There are three coats of underglaze on each little check on the bottom portion.
INSIDE:
Inside this bowl, flowers were hand-drawn, then outlined with rubber latex dispersed through an applicator bottle with a fine tip.
This process results in a "Coloring book" effect, where you glaze in between the lines. After glaze is applied, the rubber latex is removed; stretchy as a rubber band.
The band of flowers is 2" wide on the inside.
The very bottom of the inside is a glossy white, with tiny flecks.
The swirl on the very bottom inside is visible through the glaze.
RIM:
Rim is a glossy, dark grey, and continues into the inside, behind the flowers.
Wheel-thrown Standard 365 Porcelain
Glazed with lead-free, dinnerware safe glazes.
Fired to Cone 6 (2232º Fahrenheit).
My signature is engraved on the bottom of the bowl.
All of our handmade pottery is either wheel-thrown or handbuilt in our North Carolina home studio.
