Hand-crafted Small Bowl. Wheel-thrown Quince Flowers Hand Painted with Underglazes.
This Small Wheel-thrown Ceramic Porcelain Bowl with Underglaze Quince Flower Design Measures:
3" wide x 1-1/2" high.
Wheel-thrown agateware colored porcelain.
Agateware resembles agate stone.
Two different colors of porcelain are twisted together, then wheel-thrown on the potter's wheel. This creates a marbling effect.
This marbling effect is only noticeable on the very bottom of the bowl, and if you look very closely, you can see a little marbling where the rubber latex was around the flower outlines.
OUTSIDE:
I drew quince flowers and leaves onto the bisqueware (the first kiln firing is called the bisque firing), then outlined the flowers with Amaco's rubber latex.
This gave me the ability to "stay in the lines" - so to speak.
Three coats of Amaco Velvet underglazes for high opacity.
After the underglaze colors were applied, the rubber latex was peeled off, as if pulling off a rubber band.
INSIDE:
Tiny flecks of blue and cream color at the rim down to approximately 3/8" from the rim.
Glossy pale apricot / white inside the bowl, below the flecks.
there is a SLIGHT indication of the swirl on the inside bottom, however, it is mostly covered by glaze.
RIM:
A very dark, glossy brownish red - cordovan.
Standard 365 Porcelain Clay.
Glazed with lead-free, dinnerware safe glazes.
Fired to Cone 6 (2232 degrees Fahrenheit).
Dishwasher, microwave safe
Because of the design, it is best to hand wash this bowl.
All of our handmade pottery is crafted in our North Carolina home studio.
