This Small Wheel-thrown Ceramic Porcelain Bowl with Underglaze Hellebore Flower Design Measures:

4-1/4" wide x 2" high.
Holds approximately 7 ounces. (Between 3/4 cup and 1 cup)

Usually customers have the best ideas on how to use these small bowls.
I'd say ice cream bowl, fruit bowl, salsa bowl, olive bowl.

Wheel-thrown neriage colored porcelain.
Neriage is a wheel-thrown technique utilizing at least two different colors of porcelain clay.
The two colors are placed on the potter's wheel.
As the wheel spins, and the sides are pulled up, the two colors spiral together forming bands around the pottery vessel. This technique is more noticeable when using colors of high contrast.

Hellebores or Lenten Roses as they are commonly called, flower in winter and early spring when little else is blooming.
These evergreen perennials grow 15- 18 inches tall in zones 4 to 9.
Lenten roses are native to Europe and western Asia, and are in the buttercup (Ranunculaceae) family.

OUTSIDE:
Light and dark neriage technique is very visible, especially where the light gray wraps around the dark gray near the top.
Hand drawn and glazed dark pink hellebores around the circumference of this bowl.

INSIDE:
Tiny flecks of light blue and darker blue at the rim down to approximately 1/4" from the rim.
Glossy light blue and blue inside the bowl, below the flecks.
Swirl on inside bottom is clearly visible.

RIM:
Dark gray rim with a glossy clear glaze.

Standard 365 Porcelain Clay.
Glazed with lead-free, dinnerware safe glazes.

How It's Made

This small bowl was wheel-thrown on the potter's wheel utilizing the neriage technique. Two colors of colored porcelain used - light and dark gray.
After the initial bisque firing (Cone 04 1945º Fahrenheit), hellebore flowers were hand-drawn and rubber latex applied to the lines, using a glaze applicator with small tip to form the petals.
These petals were glazed with three coats of underglaze.
The rubber latex was peeled off after the underglaze dried, and 3 thin coats of
lead-free, food safe clear applied over the entire outside surface.

All of our handmade pottery is crafted in our North Carolina home studio.
