Dennis's Wheel-thrown Aqua and Milky White Glazed Chatter Shallow Bowl
Measures:
4" wide x 7/8" high

Shallow dipping bowl.
Jewelry or catch-all bowl for keys, watch, ring or small trinkets.
Can be used as a candle plate for small votive candle.
(Flat surface to sit the candle on is approximately 2-1/2" in diameter).

This bowl was created on the potter's wheel, utilizing a pale minty green colored porcelain we color ourselves.
A narrow band of very subtle chatter effect was created just above the footring.
Please see "How It's Made" section for chatter technique.

OUTSIDE:
Raised edge - approximately 3/4" high from the inside - flaring gently outward towards the rim.
Top three quarters of the outside of this shallow bowl is a glossy, smooth Aqua Celadon glaze.
The narrow chatter band, beneath the glazed area is left naked clay to the footring.
Chattering is visible in the fourth photo. (photo below)
A slight indent on the section connected to the footring (chatter band) is becoming a distinctive feature on our pottery bowls, giving them some distinct character.

INSIDE:
The inside of this bowl is glossy with tiny flecks and speckles.
Just below the rim is a band of very pale amber that runs into a creamy white with tiny speckles in the glaze. Dennis's layering of glazes produces this effect.
The bottom swirl is clearly visible, consisting of pale minty green and milky white.

RIM:
Slightly flared rim.
Glossy, smooth light Aqua wrapping around the inside and outside.

Wheel thrown and hand glazed by Dennis.
Colored Standard 365 Porcelain Clay.
Glazed with dinnerware safe, lead free glazes.
Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
Kiln fired to cone 6 (2232 degrees Fahrenheit)

Dennis's initials with happy face carved on the bottom.

How it’s Made

This bowl incorporates a pottery technique called chattering.
Chattering is a technique created on leather hard clay (not wet and not bone dry).
A sharpened metal tool is held loosely near the end of the handle.
The tool is allowed to vibrate and bounce on the surface of the clay, while the potter's wheel spins at high speed.
Usually found on the outside of the pottery.

All of our pottery is wheel-thrown and/or handbuilt in our North Carolina home studio.
